There are two main cinemas that we go to, both of which are based in the two nearby malls. Movie tickets are cheap, and can be as little as 35K on a weekday for a standard seat. The cinemas are modern like Golden Village with cushioned seats, clean, non-smoking. Generally it's just like Singapore, just that the subtitles are in Bahasa.
At any one time there are usually a maximum of three English/foreign language films that have English subtitles that we can watch. So it's not like we can binge watch 2 movies per day or what. We usually try to catch one movie per day and at least one at the Satin Suite in CGV.
CGV Cinema at Grand Batam Mall
This is like our GV Gold Class, just very much cheaper and costing maximum of 75K (I think, might be cheaper) on public holidays. You can choose to sit on the massage chairs or the double beds. Yes you read it right - double beds, with comfy blankets and all.
Double beds in Rows A & B, massage chairs in Rows C, D & E
People ask me - hygienic or not? Clean or not? The bed has no sheets, and is made of sofa material. Comes with two pillows, built in head rest and two individually packed blankets. And there is no tolerance for hanky panky cos the cinema has built in infra-red cameras that can see you in the dark.
So comfy lahhhh...
You can also buy the regular tickets for the regular seats and they are like our GV.
Popcorn: Popcorn is cheaper than SG but considered expensive if you think about all the 12K mee sotos you can get with a pack of popcorn that can be at least 40K.
The popcorn at CGV taste like cardboard sprinkled with salt. Save the money and go feast elsewhere after the movie. OR smuggle something in from the kiosks.
XXII Cinema at BCS Mall
This is a decent modern cinema but without the fancy Satin Suites that CGV has. The popcorn here is ok, but unless you really have to, we recommend you save the precious stomach space for nice Batam food.
I think that the regular tickets are cheaper here compared to CGV.
This same chain is also available at Nagoya Mall and Megamall.
